I’m often asked if I became a midwife and lactation consultant because I love working with babies. While this is true, I’m really in it for the mothers. After more than 13 years working in this space I have come to recognised how mother-focussed I am in an area of health that is so baby-focussed. I am passionate about supporting women to have the best experience possible as they transform into a mother, whether it be for the first or fifth time. I want every woman to have the knowledge and skills she needs to have a journey that she is proud of and can reflect on positively. I provide holistic lactation support that can set the tone for other areas of your postpartum life. This is because not only am I here to investigate breastfeeding issues and problem solve with you, I am also here to foster the relationship you have with your baby through attachment and natural mothering concepts. I’ll do everything I can to ensure that you and your baby can thrive together as a team.
I bring with me a wealth of professional, but also personal experience to this space. While this isn’t something I share in consultations (because the focus is on your and your baby), it may help to know that I have lived experience across my four children with tongue ties, nipple trauma, triple feeding, tandem feeding, mastitis, weaning due to cancer treatment, relactation, exclusive expressing, breast refusal, the list goes on! I am also an autistic woman with ADHD. My neurodivergence has driven me to create what you see here, but like many others, unravelled in early motherhood.
I founded Milky Business in 2019 because the void in well informed, thorough and gentle clinical lactation care was lacking. Breastfeeding isn’t just “positioning and attachment”. I find great joy in being the “why?” woman to problem solve infant feeding issues for families, or sometimes to simply help them filter out the noise and tune into what feels right for them and their baby. I welcome all families, with all feeding methods. It is an honour and privilege to be invited to be part of your story.
